TOP 3 REASONS TO START LASERS IN YOUR 20S

Keep It Youthful

The pulsed dye laser of Candela’s VBeam reduces redness and helps stimulate collagen formation. “The first issues that people in this age group encounter, apart from brown pigments, are redness due to blood vessels and dyschromias due to sun damage. This is a vascular laser which has virturally no downtime, and can be done quickly during your lunchtime hour!

Keep It Spotless

People in their 20s often do not have major pigmentation problems like you see in people in their 30s or 40s. But that doesn’t mean that there are no brown spots or sun damage. For optimal skin health, have photofacials such as IPL or BBL. A single treatment brightens the complexion, and the effect can be observed instantly!

SW1’s Illumi Facial offers the comforts of a facial and also combines the clinical benefits of the IPL for instant luminosity and skin health!

Keep It Fresh

Here’s how you should be cleaning your makeup brushes, plus expert tips and best brush cleaning products

What’s the best DIY way to clean your makeup brushes?

Haven’t got the cash to splash on brush cleaning products? There are plenty of other ways to help keep your brushes fresh that don’t mean you have to break the bank before you’ve even put your makeup on:

Julia recommends using water, shampoo or liquid soap, olive oil and essential oils as your go-to brush cleaning formula.

“Take a small bowl and add 1 cup of hot warm water to help soak your brushes,” says Julia, ” then add 3 tablespoons of baby shampoo or anti-bacterial hand wash to disinfect your brushes. Then add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to help break down and gently remove any oil-based products such as lipstick or eyeliner. The olive oil will also condition and soften the bristles.”

If you’re feeling fancy, Julia also recommends adding a few drops of lavender, tea tree or bergamot oils for their natural antibacterial properties and fresh smelling fragrance.

What are the best makeup brush cleaning products?

Ready to get serious about brush cleaning? Here are some of the best brush cleaning products out there:

Lymphatic Massage: Makes Your Tummy Happy, Tames Inflammation & Much More

lymphatic massage

Spa-goers who seek to improve their overall well being will certainly be fans of manual lymph drainage (usually referred to as MLD or lymphatic drainage). It decreases facial puffiness, boosts the immune system, smooths cellulite and soothes sore muscles. Lymphatic drainage massage helps deliver cellular waste to the lymph nodes. Drainage is essential because the lymphatic system lacks a pump of its own to transport lymph through the body and must rely on movement and massage to flush the fluid. Blocked lymphatic systems contribute to acne, constipation and even cellulite. This type of massage is known to reduce swelling, heal acne, relieve fatigue, and help the body detox.

What are habits that contribute to a poor performing lymphatic system?

  • Movement is essential. People who practice little movement, walking or exercise often suffer from a clogged lymphatic system. Proper flow requires movement. It’s suggested to practice exercises just like simple walking in the morning or jumping jacks to stimulate the lymphatic system.
  • Dehydration, the mother of all illness. Drink Water. Unlike wine, people tend to have trouble drinking bottles of water. Hydration is critical to stimulate movement in your intestines. Drink water often.
  • Stress which creates elevated cortisol, sleepless nights and high irritability also creates acidity which leads to lymph congestion.
  • Processed foods introduced in the last century have further created an imbalance in our bodies. Foods that the body does not normally absorb genetically create a sluggish lymphatic system.

While imperative to circulation, the lymphatic system is not commonly discussed. A critical part of the body, twice as much lymph fluid exists in the body as blood. This network of tissues and organs has a sole purpose to rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. People who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other digestive issues will benefit from a visit as part of the goal is to unblock the natural sewage treatment system.

What can you expect during a lymphatic massage?

  • Interview with the masseuse. An experienced masseuse will ask you about your diet, about your circulation and about your digestive system.
  • Lymph nodes are located throughout the body, beneath the breasts, close to the underarms, near the belly, throughout the leg. Lymphatic drainage occurs via perspiration in the armpits or urination. An experienced masseuse will try to move the fluids towards the pelvic area and towards the underarms.
  • Depending on the machine used, the masseuse may hold glass vials with a rounded point to move the fluids in the lymphatic system. Movement in the lower body will steer fluid towards the pelvis. Movement in the upper body will steer fluid towards the underarms.
  • During the massage, you will only feel the light touch of the vials. Slight ringing sound happens where a build up of lymphatic fluid exists but overall this would be considered a light touch massage.
  • The purpose of Lymphatic drainage is to optimize fluid circulation throughout the body. Persist in this practice as it does take more than one massage to see results.

After the massage, drink plenty of water. Dehydration is often discussed during this treatment. Incorporate green foods, especially superfoods, to improve digestion. While these practices have become a little more mainstream today, it is still important to understand that the foods one consumes do reflect on the skin and in the body.

Post-lymphatic results:

  • Improved elimination
  • Improved skin texture
  • Weight reduction
  • Decrease in cellulite

In addition, to keep and maintain a fluid lymphatic system, here are a few tips.

  • Continue with lymphatic massage once a month or more depending on fluidity. Ask your masseuse about methods you can include lymphatic drainage at home with dry scrubbing also.
  • Drink a lot of water. Begin with a gallon a day and increase accordingly.
  • Incorporate green foods into your diet, preferably organic. This will hopefully decrease the amount of processed foods you ingest.

Increase Collagen Production With Sublative Rejuvenation

When it comes to aging, the loss of collagen in our skin is one of the most damaging effects.  Loss of collagen, which happens naturally as we age, leads to sagging skin, folds, and lines.  Skin that lacks collagen loses that youthful ‘plump’ that Botox cannot correct.  That’s why it is important to address aging in a customized manner, like we do here at BiroVenus Medi Spa in NJ.

Sublative Rejuvenation uses bi-polar radio frequency and light energies of elos™ technology to stimulate collagen production and increase cell turnover.  The result is a more youthful appearance of the skin.
Pigmented lesions such as freckles, sun spots and age spots also become less visible. Vascular lesions such as spider vessels and redness from rosacea are also lightened and gradually fade.

Typical treatment protocol is three treatments, 4-6 weeks apart.

7 Benefits of Microneedling, the Hottest Skincare Trend

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin. Sound appealing? Not so much. But this minimally invasive treatment—whether it’s done in-office by a trained aesthetician, dermatologist, or plastic surgeon, or at home using a dermaroller (a small, handheld paint roller coated in tiny needles)—is virtually painless and incredibly effective. “The micro-injuries you create stimulates the body’s natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production, therefore reversing as well as preventing signs of aging,” says board certified dermatologist and RealSelf contributor Sejal Shah, MD. (It works the same way lasers do, only you’re injuring the skin mechanically instead of using heat or light.) Believe it or not, microneedling has become hugely popular among skincare fanatics—Vogue is calling it the next big thing in anti-aging. (Check out these game-changing anti-aging ingredients taking the skincare world by storm.)

Microneedling reduces fine and deep wrinkles

The primary appeal of microneedling is its ability to stimulate growth of collagen and elastin, which is the key to new, youthful-looking skin. Some doctors would even go so far as to say that the procedure is the most powerful way to stop aging in its tracks and prevent new fine lines and wrinkles from forming. With its ability to trigger the generation of new skin cells, just a few sessions of microneedling will noticeably reduce fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles on the forehead. “This is one of the reasons I like microneedling—because it’s able to utilize the body’s own natural healing mechanisms, so the results are very natural,” Dr. Shah says. “Also because there’s minimal downtime with it, I often recommend it as a maintenance for people who are trying to stave off the signs of aging.” To treat wrinkles, a needle length no greater than 1.5-mm should be used. (Check out the before and after pictures of microneedling on RealSelf.com.)

Microneedling repairs visible scars

In a 2009 study on the effects of microneedling, nearly 100 percent of acne-scarred participants reported a marked improvement in the visibility of their acne scars. With at-home microneedling, a 1.5-mm handheld roller is long enough to improve the appearance of acne scars. However, for severe acne scars, you may need even longer needles for maximum results, so you’ll want to find a dermatologist or facialist who performs microneedle therapy treatments. Professional grade microneedling devices can be as long as 3 mm, which is twice as effective and will treat deep acne scars that occur beneath the surface of the skin. In case you’re wondering how microneedling compares to fractional laser treatments when it comes to resolving acne scars, a head-to-head comparison published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery in 2016, found both treatments to be comparable and effective, but gave credit to microneedling for being better tolerated, with fewer side effects and less downtime. These are the secrets your skin wants to tell you.

Microneedling reverses sun damage and pigmentation

Once again, collagen is arguably the most vital way to improve the look of skin, and this goes far beyond reducing wrinkles. By stimulating collagen growth with microneedling, you can also reverse sun damage and discoloration, including the hyperpigmentation that comes with melasma. A 2015 study showed microneedling to be a promising treatment for the blotchy, brownish facial pigmentation that comes with this chronic condition. To improve extra pigmentation from sun-damaged skin, your dermaroller needles should range between 1.0 mm an 1.5 mm in length. Beauty guru Rachel Zoldan writes that after only a few microneedling sessions, her skin was clear and glowing despite too many summers in the sun. No Needles, No Bruising, No Downtime

Ultherapy non surgical face lift

Reimagine your neck, eyebrows, chin, and décolletage tighter, smoother and more radiant with Ultherapy. As the only FDA-cleared procedure to non-invasively lift areas of the face—and minimize wrinkles—our Ultherapy treatment in NJ offers a non-invasive way to transform your appearance.

Ultherapy harnesses the power of ultrasound to deliver substantial results to deep layers of the skin without disturbing surface layers. The Ulthera device is directed below the skin surface to the layer called the dermis, which it disturbs with vibration and a low level of heat. This causes the dermis to react by producing more collagen and tighter new skin cells.

The treatment is great at tightening jowls and deep creases around the eye and mouth, as well as skin on the chin and decollete. New collagen formation, skin lifting and tightening becomes apparent over just a few months of this one 30- to 60-minute procedure, but the results will last for years.

Schedule a consultation to see if ultherapy is right for you. To learn more about our medical spa in NJ, contact us at (732) 530-3222.
